Why We Made This: Insulated Cover

Why We Made This: Insulated Cover

Published on October 07, 2025

At GOODLAND, two key elements of our design process are research and community feedback. The newly redesigned premium Insulated Cover exemplifies this approach, bringing together elevated, modern design with considered function.

Over the course of the last two years, our in-house design studio has invested countless hours in refining the design of our tub covers for enhanced insulation, safety, ease of use, and an all-around improved experience. We recognize that this improved cover is an essential part of the soaking experience, so as of September 2025, we’re excited to announce that the Insulated Cover is now included with all tub orders. For the Wood Burning Hot Tub, new purchases also include the Rigid End Cover.

Why We Made This

The idea that sparked our redesign came directly from our community and their feedback. They asked for a cover that was lightweight and easier to maneuver, retained heat longer, and could withstand year-round use.

Guided by our core design principles of Considered Design and Quality and Craft, our team refined every detail to create a cover that delivered on these asks, while also upgrading the experience — whether that’s to keep the water hot for your Wood Burning Hot Tub to minimize heating time, helping to insulate the cold water in your Cold Tub for your next dip, and more. The Insulated Cover also helps keep water clear and free of debris, helping to extend the life of your water.

Thoughtfully designed in Canada, the water-repellent Insulated Cover is an elevated and long-lasting alternative to standard vinyl or wood covers.

Here are a few design details we love:

6x the insulation design

Compared to our previous rolling cover, the new design eliminates gaps and locks in water temperature longer, helping to reduce energy use.

Sloped design

The new sloped design improves heat retention and directs rainwater runoff for better performance, in all conditions.

Reinforced steel spine

Built into the centre of the cover, the steel spine provides structural integrity and supports up to 300 lbs for durability and safety, including supporting heavy snow loads.

Heavy-duty handles

With heavy duty handles, the lightweight Insulated Cover was designed to be easy to carry, lift and position on your tub, compared to traditionally heavy hot tub covers.

Folding design

The Insulated Cover folds in half for easier handling and compact storage when not in use, compared to our previous rolling design.

Durable oxford cloth exterior

While the industry standard is using marine vinyl, a synthetic material prone to heat absorption, we opted instead for a best-in-class and water-resistant black Oxford cloth. With its refined look and lighter handling, it’s a high-performance fabric ideal for all-season use.

Reinforced skirt

Designed to keep the cover securely in place, even in wind and bad weather.

Optional safety buckles

Considered features including safety buckles can be installed so the cover meets ASTM standards for hot tub cover safety, providing greater peace of mind for families, vacation rentals, and more.

Subtle embroidered logo

A refined, quality-focused detail that elevates the Insulated Cover’s modern design.

Our Design Process

Our in-house design studio took the same approach to redesigning our tub covers as with all of our tools and objects: bringing together considered design with quality and craft.

Our studio carefully looked at our previous version and reflected on how it could be improved, seeking to create a new cover whose design features and quality would parallel that of our tubs. Since the Wood Burning Hot Tub has already been out in the world for some time, this gave us the chance to gain valuable feedback on the cover itself that our team could integrate into the design process.

The design itself features enduring, quality construction, with thoughtful details that elevate the entire experience. Tapered edges direct rainwater runoff, while the reinforced skirt help keep the cover in place in windy conditions. A simple folding design and handles makes it simple to use. Or, consider the streamlined aesthetic with clean lines, allowing the design itself to visually flow with our modern tubs.

Our team also opted to design with enhanced safety features, including meeting ASTM standards for hot tub cover safety when buckles are installed and cover is properly attached.

How to Install Safety Straps

Our Insulated Cover has been thoughtfully engineered to meet ASTM F1346-91 safety standards, ensuring it functions not only as a design-forward piece but also as a protective barrier when safety straps are installed.

1. Slide the 4 looped safety straps through the handles on the cover’s side.

2. Loop each safety strap through itself around the handle capturing the handle.

3. Position the 4 x fixed buckle receivers on the hot tub exterior ensuring the safety strap is tight to prevent the cover from being lifted.

4. Once in position, secure each buckle receiver by screwing it into place using the provided screws.

5. Now the 4 x safety straps can be clicked & locked with the provided key to prevent accidental access to the tubs.

*GOODLAND’s Insulated Covers are designed to fit GOODLAND tubs. We do not currently make custom covers for non-GOODLAND tubs.
