Design & Materials

product design by GOODLAND

Our Guiding Principals

At GOODLAND, we believe in being slow and intentional in all we do—this includes our design process. We take our time to consider the life cycle of materials and each step of the user experience to make sure everything we release is designed with purpose and longevity.

Tools For Pause

It’s not just about the final result. It’s about creating opportunities to slow down, pause, and bring yourself into the present. Each object we design follows this ethos—moving beyond simply something functional, and into an experience of pause and connection.

Considered Design

We believe in meticulous design that considers every detail. This means thinking deeply about how an object will be used in different situations and conditions. We work to ensure that everything we design is a genuine pleasure to use and leaves you feeling fulfilled and inspired.

Quality & Craft

Everything we create is designed to last a lifetime or longer. We take our time to source premium materials that are kind to our planet and do extensive research to find the highest quality partners, so we can pair durable materials with exceptional workmanship.

Our Design Team

We’re proud to have put together a small but deeply talented team of designers, each with extensive experience across furniture and product design. Led by Craig Pearce—a lifetime creative and designer himself—our design team ideates and prototypes concepts out of our design studio in Vancouver, Canada.

Our Design Process

Having an in-house design studio allows us to envision and build exactly to our specifications, from choosing the perfect material to optimizing each design detail. Our research-heavy and thoughtful approach means that we don’t release anything until it’s the best it can be—creating objects that aren’t only functional and beautiful, but genuinely enjoyable to use.

Materials Library

Everything at GOODLAND is made from natural, durable, and honest materials.

Our chosen material palette emphasizes the innate beauty of stone and timber, and is hand-selected for its enduring properties.  We strive to use materials in their raw, unmasked form to emphasize their intrinsic beauty. We embrace the beautiful patina of aluminum, the salt-air cured silvering of western cedar, and the tarnished warmth of raw brass.

Western Red Cedar

western red cedar planks

Sustainably harvested in Western Canada and in the United States, red cedar is a soft yet enduring timber. Favoured for its extreme weather resistance and beautiful grain, the smell of water-soaked cedar subconsciously transports us to nature. Expect it to weather into a beautiful shade of silver as time passes.

Care & Maintenance:

Our raw red cedar requires no treatment, but can be lightly scrubbed to clean as needed.

Marine Grade Aluminum

marine grade aluminum

A timeless material, aluminum is durable, lightweight, hygienic, and completely weather resistant. Since aluminum is infinitely recyclable, it uses little energy to renew and is considered one of the most sustainable materials available. We use 6061 grade marine aluminum for its excellent corrosion resistance, strength, and workability.

Care & Maintenance:

No maintenance required. Wipe away any grime or dust with a soft cloth.

Raw Brass

Strong, durable, and resistant to corrosion, raw brass also holds an inherent warmth that works beautifully either as a base material or as an accent. Raw brass gains a unique tarnish as it reacts to the natural elements—earning a one-of-a-kind finish as time passes.

Care & Maintenance:

No maintenance required. Wipe away any grime or dust with a soft cloth.
