Was a little hesitant initiallyto purchase - this product is quite a bit more expensive than other similar items. But glad I did. I’ve used this a lot for wood splits for my smoker. Excellent quality. Thanks.

Lifetime Warranty
A refined, reliable tool for turning firewood into kindling, made from heavy duty cast iron.
Let the satisfying snap of wood splitting become your outdoor ritual. Made from heavy duty cast iron, the Firewood Splitter is a simple and safer tool for turning firewood into kindling for wood-fired bathing, outdoor cooking, fire pits, and more. Designed in collaboration with Toronto-based Castor design studio, the Firewood Splitter is both functional in use and sculptural in presence, for an elevated and enjoyable alternative to an axe.
Designed as a modern heirloom to be passed down for generations, the Firewood Splitter is backed by a lifetime warranty. Instead of a blade that floats within the frame, we’ve uniquely engineered the Firewood Splitter with a fully supported blade, so you don’t have to worry about it shifting or flexing over time — allowing you to split wood consistently and confidently for years to come.
Over time, the Firewood Splitter will earn a beautiful, natural patina. As an optional addition to deepen your ritual, the Firewood Splitter can be cared for by sharpening the cast iron blade and conditioning the surface with our Tool Sharpener and Tool Wax, if desired.
Crafted to endure, the Firewood Splitter is protected by our lifetime warranty.
The Firewood Splitter ships for free to Canada and the contiguous USA.
We ship worldwide from Canada. In-stock items usually ship in 1-4 days. Backordered and preorder items have their expected ship date displayed on the product page.

2 / Select A Piece Of Firewood
Choose and position a piece of wood on the cast iron wedge.
3 / Spilt The Log On The Blade
Using the Compact Sledge Hammer or another blunt object, split the log against the wedge.
In Collaboration
Designed in partnership with Castor, an award-winning design studio based in Toronto. Castor’s essentialist, material-driven approach parallels our own, and the Firewood Splitter was designed based on our shared appreciation for the beauty of material, considered form, and artful utility.
Considered Design
Carefully crafted to set itself apart, every element of the Firewood Splitter is intentional—built for strength, beauty, and ritual.
Secures firewood in place for one-handed splitting while acting as a guard to prevent accidental contact with the blade.
Fully supported by the heavyweight foundation, our Firewood Splitter was designed to prevent blade shifting and flexing, so you can split wood with confidence and control for years to come.
Ready to split from day one, the blade holds its edge and can be honed to keep it sharp for life.
The phosphate coating offers lasting weather resistance, allowing a natural patina to develop over time and a uniquely beautiful character to emerge.
Frequently Asked Questions
Crafted from enduring cast iron with a living, all-season finish, the Firewood Splitter requires no maintenance. If you like, you can optionally hone the blade with a whetstone or condition the cast iron with a wax to preserve the original finish.
Besides the Firewood Splitter, all you need is a striking tool like the Compact Sledge Hammer to split the wood into kindling. The Firewood Splitter includes the hardware needed to mount it to a steady surface - a screwdriver is required.
A versatile tool, the Firewood Splitter works best on firewood up to 7” in diameter. Staying within this size helps ensure the act of splitting wood is simple and satisfying. The Firewood Splitter is more useful for creating kindling and small splits vs breaking down large rounds.
Due to the engineered shape of the wedge & fully supported blade design - any type of wood can be split. Avoid splitting knotty or twisted firewood - wood with straighter grain is more enjoyable to split. Depending on where you live, the best firewood to burn for kindling might be pine, fir, cedar, yew, and more.
Designed to stand the test of time, our Firewood Splitter is made from the highest quality materials and engineered for durability. It’s built to be an outdoor tool that you can rely on — the Firewood Splitter is backed by our lifetime warranty.

Grinding marks at base where casting imperfections must have occurred. Would prefer if this was manufactured domestically for the price point.
Store owner replied: Hey Dwight, thanks for the heads up on the machine marks on the castings. These do have hand finishing, so some evidence of that is all good with us but we appreciate your POV, happy splitting!
Great tool
We love our wood splitter! This is well-made and beautiful. Splitting wood with this tool is perhaps my new favorite outdoor task.
Love our firewood splitter! It’s not only practical but gorgeous and well made!
Very convenient for chopping wood - makes the process so much easier!
So easy, even our kids are splitting kindling
Such amazing quality and a fun addition to our firewood shed. We love using it to cut kindling!!
Love, love this wood splitter. Beautiful design and the epitome of form follows function. It’s also great for splitting kindling for my wood stove. It’s a win win!
Love this piece! It truly is heirloom quality and I love it for chopping kindling. We only have wood heat in our home and visit the wood shed very frequently. This product makes some of the work load easier AND less intimidating when making thin pieces of kindling.
It makes chopping wood so much easier!! It’s also so pretty to look at haha.
Best kindling cracker we've used and we've used em all. The tiny sledge is also an absolute delight!
The item is much safer than an axe. I just need to buy the sharpener and all good to go. Enjoying the active use of doing the prep.
I love it! Feels great and looks good! Super sharp too
We are OBSESSED with our splitter! Living in a cold weather place in rural Maine, good tools really have a big impact on the quality of our daily life. We use this splitter for our house wood stove as well as our sauna. We had a splitter from our local hardware store which was great, but until this one from Goodland arrived, we had no idea what we were missing. It’s heavy-duty and makes all the splitting and firewood work we have a dream! Thank you Goodland for making such high quality products and tools to increase both function and beauty of life!
We love it!
Love it super handy!
Such a beautiful piece, and very easy to use!
We LOVE our woodsplitter. It makes cutting wood safer and easier for the kids to help out. We love love love this product. So sturdy as well! and well made and so beautiful
This isn’t my first wood splitter but I’m sure it will be my last. It looks better and stronger than any I’ve seen and splits wood beautifully. It’s a nice touch that it comes with mounting hardware and all you need is a surface to screw it to. I look forward to chopping kindling and splitting now that I have this and it much safer to use then an axe.
I LOVE this wood splitter! So compact, so easy to use, truly foolproof and it feels a lot safer than my old method.
Love all Goodland products! But this one was a fun addition. It’s very easy to split wood, very high quality and heavy which is exactly what we needed.
Love this fire wood splitter ! It’s extremely durable and well made. Very beautiful design. I use it for my backyard fireplace for cooking. Very stable and would recommend.
