Water Sources and Ideal Balances for Soaking

Water Sources and Ideal Balances for Soaking

Published on October 31, 2025

A natural soak starts with balanced water to keep your metal tub looking its best. One of the most convenient parts of GOODLAND tubs are that you can use any source of water to fill up your tub (lake, ocean, hose, or well). We recommend using balanced water for best results.

While there’s a good chance the water at your property is already balanced, there’s some locations (such as rural areas using well water) that could be more likely to have unbalanced water. If you think this might be the case, don’t forget to test your water levels.

What is balanced water and the best source of water for your tub?

Balanced water is when the chemical levels (like alkalinity, pH, and calcium hardness) are at an equilibrium, preventing it from being corrosive or causing any scale buildup. Balanced water is important in hot tubs and pools to ensure safety, comfort, and protection of equipment. With GOODLAND tubs, using balanced water helps keep the metal looking its best.

Plus, unbalanced water could negatively impact your skin and hair, potentially causing problems like itchy skin or eyes, dry hair, and more. Beyond being important for tubs, having balanced water is also important for your own comfort in the water, too.

If you think your water might be unbalanced, you can check water balance using test strips and adjust as needed. Optimal levels are a pH of 7.2-7.6, alkalinity between 80-120ppm, and total hardness between 150-250ppm. Water can be easily balanced by adding additives to help the water reach optimal ranges.

Our Water Balancing Stickers

To make water balancing simpler, we’ve included a sticker in all of our GOODLAND tubs that shows the ideal chemical level range as a helpful reminder and it should be removed before your first soak
